Claudia Arellano - Phillip's Journey

In The Cay our hero, Phillip, leaves home with his mother because of the war. He is then separated from her when their boat gets torpedoed. He is brought aboard a raft by Timothy. During the next few months many things happen which changed him into a hero. He creates a better world for himself because he grows up.
Phillips mom was afraid of the war, so she talked to Phillip’s dad about leaving. Telling him about all the horrible things about the island and about the war. She was terrified that the war might affect her life and her family’s. Phillip’s parents argued about leaving the island. His mom wanted to leave but his dad needed to stay and help with the refinery. Then one day Philip and his mom packed their bags and they were on their way to the U.S. They went to port to wait for their boat the S.S Hato. They board their boat, and off they go to the U.S. On their way to the U.S their boat the S.S Hato gets torpedoed. Phillip and his mom get separated. Phillip gets hit in the head and becomes unconscious. When he wakes up he notices he is on a raft with a black man named Timothy. They spend about two days on the raft. Phillip becomes blind; he begins to blame everything on his mom. He hits Timothy, blaming him for what had happened. Not being able to trust someone he never met and someone who was so different from him. Timothy sees a cay, with amazement Phillip gets up and falls into the water. Timothy dives in to save him.
Timothy decides they should land on the cay. Phillip hated the idea. He wanted to stay on the raft. Now they were in a deserted island in the middle of the Caribbean. Phillip was very angry with Timothy. He called him a stupid black man that did not know how to read. Timothy slapped Phillip. Making him realize that all he was doing was helping him. That made Phillip want to be friends with Timothy. Thinking they would never get rescued, Timothy began to build a hut. They began to make their life. He taught Phillip the way around the island, he taught him to fish and to get coconuts from the palm trees. Timothy knew that he could not work as hard any more. He was making Phillip independent. Timothy realized that there was a storm on the way. He prepared and hid their belongings. Timothy got hurt during the storm but he did not want to tell Phillip. When they were in the eye of the storm Timothy laid on the sand. Phillip knew something had happened. He lay next to him and cried. Timothy was dead.
Phillip got rescued days after Timothy’s death. He was happy to leave the island he hated, but he was sad to leave Timothy behind. Phillip looked back at all he had been through with Timothy, as he left the island. When he gets home his mom apologizes for everything he had gone through. But Phillip did not blame her, he was glad it happened. Now he thought about the native people in Willemstad differently. He wants to be able to communicate with them as he did with Timothy.
Phillip’s story demonstrates a true Hero’s Journey. Phillip is called to leave. During his journey he over comes fear with help from Timothy. Phillip proves himself to be a true hero.

The Cay

In The Cay our hero, Phillip, leaves home with his mother because the war. He is then separated from her when the SS Hato is torpedo. He is brought aboard a raft by timothy. During the next few months many things happen which changed Phillip into an adult. He creates a better world for himself because he overcame his prejudice.
A calling is reason to go somewhere (out into the world). In the book The Cay, the calling was that Phillip’s mother was afraid of the war and she didn’t want to be there anymore. The threshold was when Phillip’s parents argued weather they should go or stay. A descent is where it’s the beginning of the journey into the unknown. In the book it was when Phillip and his mother began their trip back to America.
Abyss is the unknown, in the book Phillip went to the Caribbean which was the unknown. A black man named Timothy, mentor him. Timothy showed him all he could. Timothy slapped Phillip, but after Timothy slapped Phillip, Phillip started to realize that just wanted to help him. Phillip is now more aware of his surroundings. Phillip overcame his prejudice, because of Timothy.

kris nielsen--Respect

There are many was to get respect in the world, but I am going to fockes on respect in goups, with friend, in shcol, at home, and on a team. There are two was of getting recpecy and they are doing thing for respect or you can give respect. if you give respect two things can happen it can "blow up" in your face or you will be given the respect back. Now if you do stuff to git respect it is cinda like REP, so for egsampel if you do what evre the teacher saids right when the theacher saids so then you REP mihgt be "a teacher's pet". that is what I think of respect.

Adylene Ramirez--Respect

At Home And Everywhere I Go I Get Respect By Giving Respect. If I Dont Give Respect,Im Not Gonna Get It.At School Wat I Think When You Get Respect Is By Like Who You Hang Out With.Thats What i Think When You Get Respect At School. And In Groups Is By Helping Your Group Out.On What Thet Need Help With.Cause If You Dont Then They Wont Give You Respect Or Anything. With Friends Is The Same Thing. You Have To Give Respect To Get It!

Crystal Flores Respect

Respect ia a very vaulable thing. You have to give to get! For example at home you can help out by: doing chours, takeing care of your little sister and brother and you should always obey your parents. If your on a team not only should you respect your teammates but, you should also respect your couch. Support your team and never hold back! And if your teammates or your couch correct you don't get mad they are just trying to help. Another place to gain respect is at school. Always remember the golden rule. And it's the some for when your with groups. Just be yourself. These are some of the ways you could be respectful!

Francisco Macias Respect

What respect means to me is.Is a quarter of my life .With out respect you might not go so far.Well for me you might not go so far in life.It values nearly to the wolrd. You have to give respect and show it to one another.like at school.Show u p to your classes.Or antwhere.Like with friends also. You have to be nice to them. Also at home. With your parents because you can only have them once.

Kylee Murray Respect

When I'm at home I get respect by giving it. What I mean by that is I do what I'm told, I don't argue with my parents, I don't scream at them but most importantly I listen to what they have to say. But its not all about my parents, its about my brother too. I don't go around pushing him or cussing at him or yelling at him just because its fun no that's not cool at all you need to respect everyone as much as you can. The way I get respect at school is I don't beat kids up, i don't yell at teachers. I don't disrespect people. My belief is treat people the way you want to be treated.

Itzel Rivas Respect

You can get respect well in many ways but it depends on how you want to get respect.
At home you can get respect by, well respecting your mom and dad choirs, helping around the house you know doing what you can.
Oh and at school you can get it by paying attention in class, listening to your teachers, doing your homework and of course you should never ever fight with your teacher even if they do say or do something way out of line.
when your on a team you can't go off and do your own thing you should
take the time to listen to your teammates and of course you have to listen to your coach and if you happen to learn some new stuff that day you should
practice it until you get it right.
Oh but when your in a group you should always talk to each other to see whats up and you'll never believe you and group have in comen.
finally when you hang out with you should never stand them up and when
you say your going to hang out with them, and you should always tell them the truth no matter what happens, you should call when ever you can,and Don't Ever Be A Back Stabber!
As for this, is my advice for getting respect thanks for reading.

When you are working in groupslet other people share there share their ideas and always do work don't just let other people do the work thats why it is called group. To get respect with your friends, if they have a problem help them and always have their back, be ther when they need you the most and always be honest. Claudia Arellano- Respect

Respect is important where ever you go. Give respect to get respect. Everyone expects you to respect your self and every one around you. Even though it's not easy to give and get respect.
At home you earn respect by obeying your elders. Doing as you're told when you are asked, not later. Being home by cerfw is important too. Not braggging about what you want .
Respect at school-You get respect by getting along with your teachers. Listening during lectures. Doing homework when it's assigned. Doin't try doing them the day they are due, because you might cause your teacher to loose respect for you. Raise your hand when you have a question or have something to say.
Respect with friends is very different then how you might treat other people. Even though you know eachother very well, be carefull with what you say. To get respect from your friends you should be loyal and kind. Be willing to listen all the time. Even if you're not in the mood to listen. They'll have more respect for you. And you'll be happy they went to you and not someone else.
Respect in groups- Share what you have to say . Don't talk when another group member is talking. Let everyone sgare their ideas. Do the work together.
Respect at church-You get respect by participating during church. Don't talk while your Priest , precher, reverend ect.
Those are all different ways to give and get RESPECT.

valeria garcia-Respect

How do you get respect?Well at home I get respect by doing what I'm told to do and by not talking back.At school I get respect by treating everyone the same and by just being nice.My friends respect me because I always try my best to be honest and truthful with them.I also don't talk about them behind their backs. In groups you get respect by giving it.You should let everyone have a turn and share their own opinions including yourself.Well I'm not really a church kinda person but when I go to church I just respect everyone specially my elders. You should also never say bad words in church. That's my opinion of how you earn respect.

CRISTINA ARIAS, RESPECT

Oh and remember to be on time ,no tarties, dont get in trouble,be responsible.Thats if you want to get the teachers respect too. Another way on how to get respect is to get respect with your friends. Frist you have to be a real friend and always have to be with them in everything, be honest to them, be kind, be a caring friend, helpful and lots more. Fanilly to get and earn in public you have to be polite, smile at everybody, be kind, nice, friendly and helpful. One more thing just be your selfand youll get respect,if you followed and read my page then im pretty sure youll get respect.

VON KERR ANDREW PASCUAL-RESPECT

All people need respect, so other people respect them too. We need respect at school, at home, in groups, with friends, on team, etc..... We need to be responsible, kind to each other, be friendly. We can get a lot of respect if we know how to respect and we can get a lot of friend if we know how to respect.
We know that a lot of people respect each other. Then let's try to respect each other and let see what happen.

Iyana Esters--Respect

"You wanna know how I get respect in my everyday life?", well in order to get respect you have to give respect. That is what my mom tells me all the time at home because its going to effect and follow me my whole life in the long run. But how i get respect at home is obeying my mom and do what ever she wants me to do without complaining and no talking back. It's as simple as that. Getting respect at school isn't very hard at all, you just have to be involved and particpate in class. "Oh make sure the teacher notices you in a positive way". Now i gain pently of respect on my team by having a great sportsmen and keeping the team together, must believe will out that your team will fall apart. But ill have the toughest catergories are the friends and groups a.k.a. clicks because you have to worry about fitting in and all kind of stuff but all that i do is be myself and get along with people as also being a true friend.
